Fishing Shallow Water Cover

When fishing shallow water cover throw weightless texas or wacky rigged Senko type worms, jig & pig or crank baits to every shady spot you come across.  Shade produced by docks, boats, hoist canopies, stumps, trees, rocks, weeds, etc. should be fished thoroughly.

Bass love Lily Pads!  Fish the shady side of Lily Pad patches or drag a weightless texas rigged senko type worm or weedless frog over the top of Lily Pad fields.

There is no such thing as “too shallow” for Lake Shannon largemouth bass!  Since this is a “single fish pattern” (you will likely catch only 1 or 2 fish per spot) you will need to move through the shallows quietly to do this.  Consequently a trolling motor or a human powered craft is typically required.  There are many options for putting a trolling motor on a pontoon boat, see Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, Boaters World or West Marine for details.

Not all shallow water cover is readily visible, much of it is under the water, look for stumps, rocks, cinder blocks and anything else that will give a bass a place to hide and ambush prey.  These things can be difficult to see in Lake Shannon's dark waters.  Polarized sun galsses will help a lot!  Another trick is to explore the lake during winter draw down, these pictures show some of Lake Shannon's Submerged Shallow Water Cover.
