Fishing Deep Water Structure

When fishing deep water structure, throw jig & pig, texas rigged worms, carolina rigs, drop shot rigs, deep running crank baits, or any other baits that can be fished deep.

Since this is typically a multi-fish pattern, you can often anchor a boat and catch several fish.  It is easiest to position your boat on the shallow part of the structure and work your baits from deep water to shallow water, in this way you can best keep your baits in contact with the bottom.

You may spook fish by positioning your boat on the shallow part of the structure though.  So you may want to position in the deeper water and throw at the shallow water, especially if the shallow part of the structure is 5 feet or less or if it a sunny day with calm water.

These pictures from when the dam failed show much of Lake Shannon’s deep water structure spots.
